Community Dispute Resolution Day

Posted on

Today, October 16, 2025, we join our fellow Michigan dispute resolution professionals, volunteers, and supporters in recognizing Community Dispute Resolution Day—as officially proclaimed by Governor Whitmer. This day reminds us that mediation, restorative practices, arbitration, facilitation, and other forms of alternative dispute resolution are not just legal tools—they are community bridges. They help neighbors, schools, families, businesses, and organizations resolve conflict with dignity, creativity, and mutual respect.

We celebrate the thousands of dedicated mediators, facilitators, and volunteers across Michigan who give their time, energy, and empathy toward peaceful solutions. We are grateful for the Community Dispute Resolution Centers—mandated under Michigan Public Act 260 of 1988—and for the State Court Administrative Office’s support of these local centers. Through their work, costly litigation can be averted, relationships preserved, and trust strengthened. As we reflect on the power of dialogue, we reaffirm our commitment to making peaceful, constructive conflict resolution accessible to all Michiganders.
